What is ecodesign?

Ecodesign is a branch of industrial design, and its projects are based on principles aimed at ensuring sustainable production and environmentally correct use. Ecodesign seeks to reduce the environmental impact of products through performing an analysis of their life cycle:

In general terms, ecodesign means that the environment itself helps to define the direction of design decisions. In other words, the environment becomes a co-pilot in product development. In this process the environment is given the same status as more traditional industrial values such as profit, functionality, aesthetics, ergonomics, image and overall quality.

An effective tool

Ecodesign is a widely tested methodology and the results of projects carried out in Europe and in Central America promise a reduction of 30% to 50% in environmental deterioration, which is often feasible in the short-term.

Rull Señalización Responsable has embraced this new environmental sensitivity by applying ecodesign principles across its entire range of sustainable signage.


Our actions are aimed at environmentally improving our products, and encompass the initial design phase, selection of materials, implementation of alternative processes that produce the minimum amount of pollution, long useful life, reuse, etc. In other words, we ensure that production processes, transportation, installation and product life cycle are as sustainable as possible.

  • Aesthetics; great respect for the environment and integration with areas of historical and monumental value
  • Use of recycled and recyclable components, such as steel and aluminium
  • Dematerialisation; minimal use of elements in the structural design, allowing for easy assembly and avoiding products or actions that produce emissions. Disassembling the product is also easy and ecological
  • Long product life cycle
  • Possibility of repair is considered
  • No or low maintenance required during useful life of products
  • Compactability; reduction in space required for storage and transport
  • Easily reused; if it needs to be moved to another location or the graphic information needs to be updated
  • End of useful life; disassembly and recycling of components.
